Chinese leading fabric manufacturer Wah Fung Group worked with RESET to demonstrate that its Cold Pad Batch dyeing technology has helped it achieve significant carbon and water savings in fabric manufacturing compared with the conventional processes using exhaust dyeing.

Wah Fung is the very first Chinese company to adopt the recently unveiled Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product Life Cycle Standard. RESET Carbon, having roadtested the standard earlier , worked on the ’s LCA work to help Wah Fung demonstrate that the fabric supplier achieved 13 percent carbon savings and over 50 percent water savings compared with the conventional dyeing process.

Throughout the process, Wah Fung worked at both sites with RESET Carbon, a Hong Kong-based carbon service provider, to map out the ‘cradle-to-fabric gate’ life cycle and quantify the associated carbon emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol Product Standard.

After three months of primary data collection, the results - 13% carbon savings and over 50% water savings compared to the company’s traditionally dyed fabrics - show the potential of alternative dyeing technology to help the region’s textile manufacturers reduce their overall impact on the environment while also providing significant contributions to Chinese Government carbon and water efficiency targets. China is currently seeking to reduce carbon emissions per unit of GDP by 17% by 2015, and water use per unit of industrial output by 30%.”
